On Tuesday 1st November 2016, the Institute of Digital Games hosted the 1st doctoral consortium of the Philosophy of Computer Games conference. Taking place on the morning of the first day of the conference, the doctoral consortium hosted 13 PhD students from 11 universities from Europe and beyond. The PhD students were able to present their vision, preliminary results, and recent findings to 8 mentors with extensive supervision experience: the mentors included international experts such as Prof. Jos De Mul as well as local experts at the University of Malta such as Prof. Ivan Callus. After a 2-hour mentoring session in 3 different rooms of the university, all PhD students, mentors and organizers convened at the Institute of Digital Games for a short mingling session to further discuss their experiences. The doctoral consortium, organized by Francesca Borg and Antonios Liapis, was a resounding success based on feedback of participants and we hope that it will become a permanent addition to future POCG conferences.
